My name is Mike Plunkett and this site is dedicated to my personal favorite muscle car, the 1971 Dodge Charger R/T. Mopar built a lot of great looking cars, but in my mind none compared to the unique lines and curves of the 1971 Charger. One of the option packages available in 1971 was the R/T package. Here is the story of my 3rd childhood, and the long journey of restoration from 2001-2006. Hope you enjoy!

I wanted to strip the car down to get the best possible paint job, more work but in my opinion, well worth the trouble and cost.  The method I decided to use is called "soda blasting".  Soda powder is blasted through a high pressure hose and it cleans everything off the sheet metal.  Very messy, but the only way to make sure of what you really have below the paint and body work.  I was happy with the result, and think it is a good way to begin if you decide to do a total restoration.  Below are some pictures showing the process.

This is how the car appeared  after I "soda blasted" it.  A lot of work lies between here and a finished project.  Click on the other pages to see the whole 5 year story.  Links are at the top left of this page.  Hope you enjoy!
